Description: Join this masterclass hosted by Dr Gerard Clausen and Dr Kang Kim as they provide insights into the intersection of dentistry and business. In a two-part session, these distinguished professionals shed light on the critical fusion of clinical expertise and business acumen required for success in the ever-evolving field of dentistry.

Dr Gerard Clausen challenges the conventional wisdom that dentistry is primarily a profession and only secondarily a business. Drawing on his experience, Dr Clausen exposes the essential interplay between clinical and communication skills and the nuanced understanding of the dental practice's broader environment. From navigating regulatory bodies to managing billing practices, his presentation explores the multifaceted aspects that impact every dental practitioner, offering a fresh perspective on the symbiotic relationship between the art of dentistry and the science of business.

Next, Dr Kang Kim takes the stage with his presentation titled "The Golden Ratio of Business and Healthcare." Delving into the fast-evolving landscape shaped by digital advancements, cultural shifts, and the unprecedented influence of social media, Dr Kim illuminates how these factors have redefined patient expectations and the delivery of healthcare services. The COVID-19 pandemic, acting as a catalyst for change, accelerated the adoption of digital health solutions, prompting a paradigm shift in the patient-provider dynamic.

In this intricate dance between business and healthcare, Dr Kim advocates for a delicate balance, emphasising the importance that business-driven decisions should balance in an ideal “golden ratio” with the foundational principles of healthcare and the expected ethical conduct of health practitioners. Through a historical lens, he traces the evolution of the dental profession, highlighting the impact of advertising restrictions, practice ownership regulations, and the rise of dental corporates. Dr Kim explores the pitfalls of uninformed business decision-making, offering insights into common accounting omissions and valuations that can hinder the success of dental practices.

As the masterclass unfolds, participants will gain valuable perspectives on how to navigate the complex business terrain of dentistry, armed with the knowledge presented by Dr Gerard Clausen and Dr Kang Kim.
