Dr Kang Kim

Dr Kang Kim studied dentistry at the University of Western Australia before starting out in private practice in 2008. He owned and operated dental clinics in metropolitan Perth between 2010 and 2021. He was an Australian Dental Association (WA Branch) Councillor for 10 years from 2009 to 2019. During that time, he spent 6 years on executive and 2 years as ADAWA President. As President, Kang spoke out strongly against the commoditisation of healthcare particularly in the private dental sector. He also advocated against the trend toward managed care being invited as one of the main speakers for the ADA Members Forum at the Australian Dental Congress in 2017. He received the ADA Outstanding Young Dentist Award in 2019 and a Distinguished Service Award from ADAWA in 2022. Kang currently holds a role as the dental advisor for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Tasmania.

Outside of Dentistry Kang was recognised as one of the next generation of directors in the Australian Institute of Company Directors magazine in 2018. He received his Master of Health Management from the University of New South Wales and worked as a management consultant for the Big Four consulting firm, Ernst and Young. In this role, he advised for a number of large Australian health service organisations. He was involved with a wide variety of projects assisting his clients to understand the way in which they deliver their current healthcare services, identify future challenges and assist them with transformative projects to maintain pace with a fast-changing global environment in the health sector.

Despite working largely with non-dental clients, he maintained a strong attachment with dental profession hoping to utilise his experience to make positive contributions to dentistry.
